First attempt at grave side time-lapse Vanitas.
Once again the weather at Wembury was not the best, though the rain had stopped the coast was still being hit by high winds.
I found a suitable grave stone to set up my Vanitas scene which would include a silver goblet, the white and black chess pieces again referencing Bergman's Seventh Seal (1958) and of course the skull. Both the skull and goblet would be revolving during the time lapse piece. I also tried to use the Broom-Cam, to try and film a high arc from the grave to the sky to represent the soul leaving the grave but without the fixed point of a rig to secure a smooth transition and the wind I omitted this from the script. Unfortunately the wind proved to be a problem and caused the scene to keep falling apart, I was also beginning to lose the light as I hadn't arrived at St Wemburgh's until the mid afternoon due to rain.

I used the last of the light to set up my first beach Vanitas experiment, after much searching I found a sheltered spot between rocks with the sunset light just peeking onto the rocks above which added great colour to the greys of the skull and shingle. I tried to pile up the shingle in front of the skull to hide it from the shot as the skull revolved. However the skull got stuck after a quarter turn while I was scouting rock pools to film. So another missed shot but a good lesson learned.
